Case Study:

Vale of Clwyd landowner

“From start to finish, the Habitat Management Team and other staff at Enfys Ecology were great to work with and always professional and knowledgeable in their approach. The end result is an area that, over time, will mature into a valuable new suite of habitats that sits well in the landscape and helps to safeguard homes from flood risk.”

Phil Bennett-Lloyd, private landowner

The Challenge:

A private landowner in the Vale of Clwyd wanted to work with natural systems to manage flood risk and improve wildlife connectivity across three acres of pasture, a natural, climate-resilient solution rather than hard engineering.

Services Provided:

Supported by the Welsh Government’s Natural Flood Management Accelerator Programme, delivered through Denbighshire County Council, we planted trees and hedgerows, created a water attenuation swale, and established wetland and wildflower planting, designed to slow and absorb water before it reaches properties further down the catchment.

The Outcome:

Despite near-drought conditions in 2025, tree and hedgerow planting achieved over 98 percent survival.
