Dobshill staff and nature wellbeing area

Biodiversity and wellbeing combined for Welsh Ambulance Service

We were commissioned, in 2021, by the Welsh Ambulance Service to create a biodiversity and wellbeing area at their Dobshill Ambulance Depot in Deeside, North Wales.  They wanted to provide a place for their staff to relax during breaks from their highly pressured work and also to ensure that the site benefited biodiversity, as part of their commitment to corporate social responsibility and ongoing mitigation for site biodiversity enhancement.

Work carried out

Creation of a wellbeing area and nature trail for NHS staff to use

Four acres of grassland managed for biodiversity with traditional grassland management methods

Planting of over 2,000 trees on site

Traditional woodland management techniques to manage on-site woodland and encourage the development of woodland flora

Creation and management of orchard area

Creation of wildlife pond and management of ponds for amphibians

Creation of vertical rockeries for invertebrate populations

Creation of bespoke biodiversity-enhancing social areas for NHS employees
