Lizards and snakes in Britain are declining due to habitat loss, degradation and fragmentation. We can conduct a survey to encourage positive measures for reptiles across a range of habitats.
Firstly we would compile data from a walk over of the proposed site. If this survey provides evidence that the site can sustain reptilian populations then a further survey will need to be completed to determine the presence of reptiles, and if so an estimate of the population size. We would search the existing site and install reptile friendly materials to complete a refuge survey. These normally take 1-2 months and requires a minimum of seven surveys.
If reptiles are present on a site which is due to be developed, appropriate mitigation will be designed. The installation of a reptile fence may be required, along with the capture and translocation of individuals.
