Badgers and their setts are protected in Britain. Our ecologists can complete a walkover survey to spot any signs of badgers within the area of the site. This should be completed prior to any works, this would usually be identified as a potential additional survey during the preliminary ecological appraisal.
If, upon completion of the survey, a sett has been identified then we can help create a solution to minimise the impact of the development on badgers and produce a licence application for the required mitigation, this may involve creating an artificial sett for the badgers and closing the existing sett using badger gates and badger fencing to prevent them returning to the sett.
To understand the population more surveys may be required such as bait marking to assess the territories of the badgers.
